2016 Faculty Interest Groups (FIG)
The Academy for Teaching and Learning (ATL) is pleased to announce the theme for our Spring 2016 Faculty Interest Groups (FIG): For the Future.
Why “For the Future” and why now? Educators can no longer look only to the past or present to resolve the challenges facing higher education. These challenges include changing student demographics, unsustainable financial models, and shifting paradigms of discovery and creativity. How might we respond to these challenges?
Each FIG will introduce new ways to imagine and undertake our tasks as educators.
Please join your colleagues for one or more of these exciting and important conversations. Books will be provided for participants.
For the Future: Reimagining Graduate Education
February 12, March 18, April 15; 12:15-1:15
Facilitated by Dr. Laine Scales (Associate Dean for Graduate and Professional Studies) and invited guest presenters.
After reviewing traditional models, participants will be invited to reimagine graduate education as the careful formation of scholars. Cultivated as “stewards of the disciplines,” (rather than as managers of academic careers) these Christian scholars should be equipped intellectually, morally, and spiritually to address the challenges of their times.
Discussion will be guided by Walker, Golde, Jones, Bueschel, and Hutchings, The Formation of Scholars: Rethinking Doctoral Education for the 21st century.
Fridays - 12:15 –1:15pm - Faculty Center #207 (Green Room)
